I am Vince Canales, Candidate for County Council District 4.

Vince Canales
My family is originally from Puerto Rico. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, but moved to Maryland upon enlisting in the United States Air Force. I have over 25 years of public service.
In 2008, I was elected President/CEO of FOP Lodge 89 and I am now serving my third term. I represents over 2,600 active and retired law enforcement officers. As President/CEO, I am the Chief Labor Negotiator collectively bargaining multi-million dollar contracts on behalf of my members, manage the organization’s operating budget, and oversee in excess $1 million in assets. I am a Member of the Medical Advisory and Disability Review Board; I also serves as Trustee on the Police Pension Plan and I am responsible for management and control of over $600 million in assets.
During my tenure as President/CEO,I was appointed to serve on the Equal Pay Commission, an eight-member commission reporting their findings to the Governor and Maryland General Assembly.
I hsve a degree in Criminal Justice and I have completed the prestigious Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education Program for State and Local Government. Additionally, I have also attended and participated in the Labor and Work-life Program hosted by the Harvard University Law School.
Since my appointment in 2011, I have served on the Bowie City Ethics Commission. In 2012, I was honored to be elected as a Delegate for the Maryland Democratic Party Delegation to the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
I am a member of the local chapter for the Disabled American Veterans, as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association. Additionally, I serve as Treasurer of the Bowie Democratic Club.
I have been a resident of Prince George's County since 1989 and have resided with my family in Bowie for more than fifteen years.

Honor Guardsman at United States Air Force
1986 - 1991
Stationed at Bolling Air Force Base and represented the USAF in presidential ceremonies throughout the country. Transferred to Osan Air Force Base in South Korea as a Law Enforcement Specialist. Awarded a USAF Commendation and USAF Achievement Medal for service. Awarded a National Defense Medal for service during Operation Desert Shield. Honorably discharged in 1991.
